Another quilting mystery author I discovered is Sally Goldenbaum and her Queen Bees Quilt Mystery.  I read and enjoyed "A Murder of Taste", which takes place in a small town near Kansas City, Missouri.  I will have to get a hold of other books in the series.  I also read one of her books from the Seaside Knitters Mystery series called "Death by Cashmere", but didn't enjoy it as much.  I thought the characters weren't as interesting or as sympathetic as in the quilting series. (Or maybe because I don't knit!)

DESCRIPTION from Amazon:  "Po Paltrow and her happy band of sleuthing quilters, the Queen Bees, are back in this exciting sequel to the popular "Murders on Elderberry Road." Po leads the Bees on a delightful journey of rich recipes, beautiful quilts - and multiple murders! A real thriller ... with a French twist!"

Another author and book which the cozy mystery group I belong to recommended is Elizabeth Lynn Casey's "Sew Deadly (Southern Sewing Circle Series)".  I have to find a copy of that book, but my to-be-read pile is already high enough right now.

Product Description from Amazon:
"Ever since she moved to Sweet Briar, South Carolina, Yankee librarian Tori Sinclair has been the talk of the tiny town. But she's been so busy at work, winning over the sewing circle, and trying to forget her cheating ex that she hasn't even had time to baste together a pillow, let alone mind local gossip. Then she finds the hometown sweetheart dead at her back door...

Everyone believes the police investigator, who's just fixin' to link Tori to the murder in a love triangle gone bad. To clear her name, Tori will have to rely on her new sewing sisters and stitch together the truth- or be darned."

I finished Sew Deadly berfore I finished the Cat The Quilt, and the Corpse and it's description is just as it is. They were both about the same sort of read. Now I'm onto Sister's Choice and I like it as one of the Shenandoah Quilt Mysteries.

I'm currently 'reading' (listening on Ipod) My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. They made this into a movie recently but I haven't seen it. The book is excellent. I love Jodi Picoult.

I just finished her newest book "House Rules" about an 18-year-old young man with Asperger's Syndrome.  It is very long and I figured out the "mystery" early on, but still it's a good book.  Both my daughter and I read "Sister's Keeper" years ago, but my daughter didn't want to read this one when she saw that it's over 500 pages long.

Here's a link to the blog "Killer Hobbies" by lady mystery writers.  Terri Thayer wrote a column about quilting.  Her mystery books are about a quilt shop owner who gets involved in solving murders.

Just started reading the Conjuror's Bird by Martin Davies. Must be good as I have nearly finished it and only started yesterday.  It tells the story of the search for the last remains of an extinct bird and is intertwined with the story of Joseph Banks and his mistress.  Joseph Banks was the botanist that travelled with Cook to Australia on the Endeavor and bought back the first samples of the new and unique flora and fauna.  It is really quite interesting don't know if any of it is based on actual fact apart from names etc or if the extinct bird ever existed might look into it when I have finished the book.

I just finished Elizabeth Berg's "The Last Time I Saw You".  I really enjoyed it.  It's about people going to a 40th high school reunion.

Just finished The Lost Quilter by J. Chiaverini. It was very good. Even had lesson discussion questions at the end. Thought provoking. Woke at 4 wondering how it would end and had to finish it. Next I have the Granary Guild. DK the author will let you know.  Cheesy

I enjoy all her books, Sharon.  Plus, we both graduated from the University of Chicago, so I'm a little biased towards her.  But she's a LOT younger than I am, so we weren't there at the same time.

I just started reading a mystery about knitters, the Moon Spinners by Sally Goldenbaum, http://www.amazon.com/Moon-Spinners-Seaside-Knitters-Mystery/dp/0451229886.

on of my fellow radio show hosts posted this

"We had on the hilarious Lisa Kogan on our show yesterday (she writes a humor column for "O" Magazine).  She has a new book out "Someone will be with your Shortly." It's a great read filled with heart and Humor (Lisa is often described as a cross between George Plimpton and Gidget ~ love that!!)

We are giving away a free book on our website.  Would you mind tweeting or facebooking this contest to your friends (and maybe entering the contest as well?)

Here's the link to the contest: http://www.mommyonashoestring.com/blog/?p=541
