I also read the Devil and The White City a couple of years ago and agree that this book is outstanding!  The history alone of the Chicago World's Fair is so fascinating; I was astonished at the number of inventors that had added their expertise to setting up "the White City"...inventors whose products we take for granted today. When you add the intertwined story of the urban serial killer to it, this book is really worth reading!

My DH is a big fan of "The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo" and we just watched the movie through Netflix yesterday.  It is a Swedish Mystery and filmed as a 2 part TV series in Sweden.  They combined the two shows with some add ins and made it into a movie with English subtitles.  After a couple of minutes with the volume lowered we were well into the movie.  I tried the book but stopped after an hour listening and just couldn't get onto it.

The movie is great and I recommend it if you want a really good mystery without all the crazy special effects the US puts into everything.  The US is thinking of doing Books 2 and 3 but bet they are not as simple and great as the Swedish version

Thanks for the info on the movie, Karen.  I'll look out for it so I can rent it.  I read all three books so am very interested in seeing the movie.

We watched the Girl/Tatoo on Netflix through the internet on the TV.  Enjoy!  You can also get the disk through the mail but there is a long line for it.

The Geometry of Sisters

Kitchen Confidential (chef's older book); he now has a new one out, but can't remember the name and haven't read it yet

Hope you enjoy one or all of these books.

Now on the bedstand: The Quilting Circle, by four women and four short stories lightly connected. Sort of a quilting Harlequin Romance, remember those? It's OK, but not something I would buy if I knew what it was. Next on the nightstand is Quilt as Desired. Hope it's a little better.

Just finished Alice'sTulips by Sandra Dallas - I think someone here suggested it.  I really liked it. The whole book is letters to her sister from a a wife left on the farm with the mother-in- law when the son goes off to war - the Civil War! Good read.  Quilty stuff & a mystery too.
