The moderators and I bantered Turkey Tracks block ideas back and forth and ended up with a FABULOUS Red/White and Blue swap ... for Veteran's day!!  Roberta did the final blocks to show you color (Margi did them in other colors to help us out while deciding!).. and I think Betty actually hit on the R/W/B color theme.

You can read the directions for the swap and get the pattern here
http://www.deathbyquilting.com/the-games.html

You sign up at the yahoo database, share photos here or at the flickr folder and have some FUN!

This is going to be an AWESOME swap!

I am hoping I can use some of my red and blue prints - I have been collecting a lot of them for a great patriotic quilt.  Are they supposed to be solid red/blue or a really red/blue print?

See the photo below Karen? The red and blues are patriotic reds and blues but not solids.  No solids (i think I wrote that in the directions)

If there is another color that is fine, but it should still look mostly RED or most BLUE in flag shades of red and blue

does that make sense?

Let's sign up today for the Turkey Tracks blocks!! I'm SERIOUS thinking on this one as I've always wanted a turkey tracks quilt!

Did you know there are many variations of this block? I love the pieces one too. This is my interpretation of an antique quilt block. The star is my addition... hehe!

Get the pattern at Death By Quilting
http://www.deathbyquilting.com/the-games.html
Sign up in the database at Yahoo (yes we still have to use that .. sorry!)
Post your progress at flickr or share photos here!!

Pat, on the instruction sheet, the link for the sign-up database is incorrect. You have it as the RR-Swap group, which is no longer there. I found it here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Pat-Sloan-Death-By-Quilting/database
Not many people have joined yet. I have been wanting a red, white, and blue quilt for a long time, so even though I am busy with several projects, I am looking forward to this swap. Thanks.

FYI... tomorrow will be a post on the Turkey Tracks Swap .. a short tutorial!

And to answer a few questions and correct some typos
http://www.deathbyquilting.com/the-games.html

1-Mail date is what is on the directions, Nov 5
2-The fabrics should have some pattern, no solids. They should be patriotic tones of Red/White and Blues
3-I left in the word 'acorn' from something I was copying, there is NO acorn on the patriotic quilt.

I have all my backgrounds cut and pressed. I have the tracks and the fusibles cut (donut style, Pat). I have to cut another square. I have the stars all cut. Today I will finish cutting and fuse. Then I will decide what stabilizer I will use (any hints?). Then I will practice my stitch and pick the one I like best as well as the thread. Ah, to match or not to match, that is the question of the day. LOL I'm having fun with this in case you couldn't tell.

Go Go GO!! That is GREAT!!!!

I never use a stablizer with the blanket stitch. Some decorative stitches need it..  I spray starch the background until it is about the weight of paper..

3 times.. spray, iron, spray, iron, spray, iron should do it

Try the stitch with and without the starch.. then if you use starch rinse out and dry the block before sending it along!

What? Starch? I just washed the starch out of my track fabric so the adhesive would work! LOL

Sharon is you starch as a stablizer it is AFTER AFTER AFTER you fuse!! It will not STICK if you starch first.

SO AFTER AFTER AFTER is the key ....
