Are you working on my Calendar Quilt from my 'Favorite Techniques book'?  There is a group blogging it, but I think some chatter here will keep everyone going.

I think there are people who have started one when I did this a few years ago, but didn't finish.. thinking of doing one.. etc.

I'll be getting a poll on interest for doing a 2010 Calendar Sew along... give me your thoughts!

And go see all the creative variations at the challenge blog. they are awesome!

I am not currently sewing one, but the blog group is what brought me over here =)  I am plannign on making one this coming year, I think 2010 is a cool time to make one. I have raided my stash already and cut strips out of everything I own, ziplocked into bags by month....I can't wait to start! (I know I could start now but I want to finish a few other things first and want it to be a real calander year!)

I started the calendar challenge this year and made it through March... then life interrupted and I haven't even thought of it again until now.  Maybe I can get a few more months done this year and complete 6 mnths this year and 6 months next year!  That sounds like a plan to me!

ciao Pat,
have a wonderful new year!!!!!  Kiss

i would love to make my first calendar quilt here with you  all and today is the right day to think about it  Wink
i would like to make a 12 strips quilt, one strip for each month, like the one i see in your book done by mary eloise sarsfield.
i need help with math.......   Huh Huh Huh Cry Huh Cry
my idea is to have a finished quilt of about 90" x 90", i am really in trouble with deciding the width and the height for each strip....

if i cut each coin of a 5" width i already have 60".
at this point the sashing could be about 2"....Huh?
i dont want to have all the coins of the same height and here comes the problem......
to have 90" in height, lets forget the sashing now, it must not be a perfect 90 x 90",
i would have to cut an average of 3" height.
how can i cut each coin in order to have a total height of about 90".
i hope u can help me.
hugs
francesca

Today is the DAY!!!!! I'll remind everyone.. but maybe not until tomorrow as I'm going out.

if you want strippy... do you want sashing inbetween like mine?  If so.. than 4 col of strips... 365/4 = 91 per vertical with 92 in one of them... so make 2 smaller if you are doing even sizes (I did not do that)

now you have to decide to you want borders? if not.. then 90 length/91= about 1" finished right?

Width... 4 colums... 3 sashings.. not border. want the sashing smaller or as wide as the days? Do math like above and you are good to go!

thanks Pat for the math Smiley))))

personally, i prefer the ones in your book, the strips are more random.
i dont like thematic fabrics according to the month.

now i will try to make some math................

When I did mine random I sometimes had horizontal so I could use wider.. did triangles.. etc...  what I did was be sure the 91 strips = 90 Inches (in your case).  So you just measure and adjust so that you can accomplish that.

some of my fabric I wanted to show off so the strips were wide, then I had to have horizontal or narrow later to make up for that.

It's fun to do it random, just be sure each column measures what you need!

I think I am going to do a journal to keep with the quilt. I want to make it really represent each day so I will write a short journal entry for each strip.
