Some people found sewing one strip a day worked.. some cut one a day, but every few days sewed them together.
I think the most important thing to do is cut the strip each day or you quickly 'feel' behind. You won't BE ... but it can feel that way.
So you should have 2 strips cut!
love the journal idea.. some people write ON the strips too.. I did a bit of that

I worked on my calendar quilt all through 2009. Each month measured 10"x40" and the strips were all random. Today I added the sashing, tomorrow borders. I'll post a photo after I get the borders on. I added a little appliqued sock for each pair of socks I knitted in '09.

Ok.... I will give this some thought.
I don't know that I want to do strips.... I like some of the block ideas from the 2009 blog you posted Pat.
What about a wonky-ish log cabin block for each month? Would 30 pieces in each block be too much do you think? I know I have seen tutorials for these blocks, have to go and check them out.
I DO think I want to join though... plenty of scraps to be used up!
(and to get out of my comfort zone and just put scraps together as they come)

I think a wonky log cabin would be AMAZING!!
if you did 12 large blocks... or 24 smaller blocks.. (2 per month).. or 36 blocks... 3 cabins per month.
3 log cabins is 10 or 11 strips in each log cabin block VERY doable.. and 36 blocks give you plenty to play with!
Last year people did some AMAZING quilt variations.. the library of books is really cool

Funny, I was just about to post some leftover fabric strips that I didn't think I'd use and now I think I can use them! I'll do a calendar quilt! It sounds fun! I like the idea of putting birthdays and important dates on special days too.
Great idea!
