I cut an inch and a half but I don't always use it all. I figure it doesn't hurt to have more rather than less. Then you can lay it out and figure out which you like better depending on the situation.

Oh, I just realized the selvages I sent that Sloanie were all just selveges. I'm not sure that was helpful at all. Perhaps I should just trash them.

Sharon... don't worry maybe there is something she can do with them... maybe zig-zag the edge that is cut to a foundation... still use the pretty writing and colors... PS. your little fabric pieces went in the mail yesterday.

i cut some edges last night!  Are you storing yours by color? A friend has a friend doing that... rolling them so she can see the color edge... not sure I need to do that but do need to get them out of the rats nest bag I think!

I store my selvages in 2 bins, not by color. I do lay them out by color when I start a project. I also iron them, so they stay neater, and are easier to work with. Check out this post on my blog...  it shows how I setup to start a project.

This was also featured on the Selvage blog this week- too exciting!

I stopped at my LQS today...my black and white selvage zinger is 13 away from its turn on the longarm. It should be home sometime next week!

thank you for the link!! I'll have to tell Sarah to look at it.. did you see my stocking for Season of Grace this month?

Ironing helps a LOT.. and I'd starch the thin fabrics a bit to make them easier if needed.

Ummm now you get to see how OCD I am about my fabrics...I know I am not the only one that does this. I have bins for my fabrics. I rearrange them all of the time but right now this is how they are (I promise to get to the selvage part in a sec) The fabrics that I have whole lines of (fat quarter bundles etc) are kept together with their line. The fabrics I just have one of are sorted by color. All of them are in a sort of filing system so that when I open the bin I can see all of the fabrics int he bin without having to move piles. So behind each line or color I have two zip lock bags one has scraps the other has selvages. This way I know were to look for certain colors or lines of scraps or selvages.... okay I admit it I do keep all of the selvages edges together sort of roll folded in the bag so they aren't a huge nest when I take them out.

It may seem time consuming but it isn't. i just always keep two zip lock bags on the table when I work on a quilt. Put the selvages in one and the scraps in the other... then it is easy after all of the piecing is done to sort them quickly into other bags in the singles case or leave them with the line when I put it away. Besides it saves time next time I am looking for something for a project.
