Since I haven't cooked in years, I don't make anything but pumpkin pies (back of the LIbby canned pumpkin label with one change). I do like turkey, stuffing (DD is making 2 kinds this year - don't ask me why, mashed potatoes, gravy, and canned cranberry jelly sliced and cookie cut into turkey shapes. Of course, my pie for dessert. The grands like Sara Lee pound cake, strawberries, cool whip and chocolate sauce - yes all of it. Kids! Happy Thanksgiving everyone in the US and elsewhere.

I look forward to creamed onions every year.  No one else in my family likes them, but my mother made them and by golly, I make them.(and eat them all myself!)
My husband's mother has never completely understood the whole concept of Thanksgiving overload and never even made gravy.  She complains every year that I make too much food, but if you don't, you don't have the best part of Thanksgiving---leftovers.

On Thanksgiving Day we'll be going to my son's future in-laws -- they love to entertain and have around 35 people show up.  There will be turkey.   Smiley  I will be bringing my standard bring-with, homemade bread, and this year I'm also bringing a sugar-free pumpkin pie so I can have a slice, guilt free.  (25 lbs. gone so far Grin 125 to go!)

Then on Saturday we'll be going to my mother-in-law's.  She's serving ham; her granddaughter is making her version of potato salad, which has a generous helping of bacon.  I'm bringing bread again, creamy corn casserole, green beans to fill up on, and sugar-free pumpkin pie.  Sometimes I think I could eat pumpkin pie every day of the year ...

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter we have Fruit Salad...it's marachnio cherries, pineapple, red and green grapes, mandarin oranges, marshmellows, and whipped cream. It's NOT deset, but every time Grandma (dad's mom) serves it as such which makes mom laugh the whole ride home.

The past three thanksgivings I've made dinner for Adam and myself after working.   This year I said no thanks, since I am the only oe who really likes that food.  I am working 6:30-12:30 then we are going to a local restraunt that is serving dinner, I just hope it's not too crouded.

When the girls are a little older and hopefully we are closer to family or in a positiuon to be able to travel to family for the holidays we will start up some traditions but not for the moment. (oh but I will make that fruit salad for myself hehe)

We spend Thanksgiving evening at our son's house watching football - after gorging ourselves on turkey with the trimmings, pie, etc of course!  I'll be making the pumpkin pie, of course!  And probably a cherry pie, too.  that's dh's favorite.

I could eat pumpkin pie for breakfast, lunch and dinner myself...

I love to hear what everyone has!

We smoke a turkey and a ham every year.  We LOVE to cook and have a ton of food.  We usually have pretty much the same things.  Twice baked potatoes (this year we are having roasted garlic mashed) green beans, 2 kinds of stuffing - I like the regular herbed and DH likes cornbread (he makes it too moist and it comes out pasty ICK) Sweet potatoes, green onion tart, homemade cranberry relish, some sort of jello salad, homemade rolls.  That's all we have planned for the main meal right now, I'm sure we will add one or two more dishes.  For appetizers we will have cranberry pecan baked brie in puff pastry and mini crab cakes.  For dessert we will have pumpkin pies made with fresh pumpkins, some sort of cheesecake, DH likes sweet potato pies, an apple pie, and probably something else.

We always have waaayyyyy too much food.  We are only having 10 people over!  LOL!!

My granny used to make a fruit salad that had canned cherries in. I tried and tried to duplicate it but the fruit salad always turned PINK!  And ours was a side dish not a dessert.

My step mom is English so makes her version of Thanksgiving.. and since cooks we don't mind..lol!! She has a really unusually stuffing (not IN the turkey).

But this year is a 'Double Day' as my mom calls it.. My Birthday AND Thanksgiving so we are going out for a really nice middle of the afternoon meal.  Can't wait!!

the trick is to rinse them off, and add them at the last minute.

I always have the traditional Thanksgiving meal, turkey, stuffing, corn, string beans, mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, brown n serve rolls and my mother's black walnut cake. We have been eating these foods for over 35 years. Last year I skipped the corn and thought my grown children were going to flip out!!! Thanksgiving dinner must have corn they said. So.... I will continue to make the same meal every year!! I love to spend the holidays with my family and I hope all of you are able to spend some time with your families, too! And I will sneak in  some sewing in the evening after they all go home! LOL Grin

thanks for the fruit salad tip!

Yes.. it was hard on my family when we not longer 'made the same thing'.. but we lived.. ha!   So how do you make your sweet potatoes.  One year my stepmom cut them into tiny chunks and sauteed in loads of butter, sugar and a few nuts.. that was the best. I normally don't like them unless they are french fries.. LOL!

Daisy,
the cranberry, pecan, brie puffed pastry sounds wonderful!
Do you share recipies?Huh!

Everyone in our family likes different things, so I make a large variety of things and we love leftovers for the week.  We stay home for a just the immediate family Thanksgiving... do our travelling between Christmas and New Years to see extended family.

I make a ham and a turkey, bread dressing (stuffing outside the turkey), wheat berry dressing, home made cranberry sauce, corn, green beans, carrots, candied yams (no marshmallows..I use brown sugar) mashed sweet potatoes, squash casserole, waldorf salad, mashed white potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie and apple pie for dessert with ice cream and whipped cream.

For hor's deurves (sorry about the spelling I failed french) I make assorted crackers with caviar, cream cheese & lox, cheddar cheese with pimento olive or india relish and ritz crakers with jam, shrimp cocktail

Leftovers are made into, of course, sandwhiches, ham balls & pinapple,  ham & bean soup, turkey rice soup, turkey tettrazini... I even made turkey enchiladas last year that were a new hit!
