I have been hosting Thanksgiving dinner for around 15 years now.  Other then the standards Turkey, mash potatoes, candied yams.  I  HAVE to make homemade cranberry sauce (no can stuff here) and succotash (gross) and pumkin pie is a must!  We also have Apple crisp with vanilla icecream and I slip new recipes in every year.  This year my son in adding glazed carrots, creamy applecrisp (who knew....it's very good) and broiled pineapples.

I love the holidays!

I have hosted lots of Thanksgivings for the last 45 years and we always have the usuals.  One year we had 34 in our new house with almost no furniture except the dining table and 4 chairs and lots of borrowed card tables and chairs.  Was one of my favorites!

We have had various "new" recipes but no one wants much to do with them - and it has to be canned jellied cranberries!  A couple of years ago I stirred them into dishes and no one ate them as they thought it was the whole sauce - lots left over for our sandwiches!!

I still make mom's famous stuffing from scratch.  Some things can not have corners cut!

There will only be 5 of us this year so will look forward to lots of leftovers.    Karen

Since it is just the two of us this year, and maybe a niece will join us, I asked my husband what he adsolutely had to have for our dinner.  He replied, "Turkey, dressing, noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie with whipped topping."  I told him, I hope he likes leftovers!

I have to have cranberry salad - cranberries, an orange, crushed pineapple, pie cherries, and walnuts in a dark cherry gelatin.  And I love apples and sweet potatoes.  I parboil the sweet potatoes, and then slice them.  In the meantime, I have the apples in a skillet with some butter, apple juice and cinnamon.  When the apples are done, I stir in the sweet potatoes, and make sure the apple juice glaze is on everything.  Yummy!  And, Pumpkin Paradise pie, a recipe from Philadelphia Cream Cheese YEARS ago.   It has a cheesecake layer on the bottom, and is just too yummy!

I just found Jello brand pumpkin spice pudding mix at the grocery store.  I guess I don't get out enough, because this really excited me.  I love to add pudding mix to cake mixes and now I can see a pumpkin layer cake in our Thanksgiving dessert extravaganza.  I was thinking of using a cream cheese frosting--anyone have any suggestions?

I'm hungry at 9:20 a.m. DH just left to photograph a house and said he would bring back a sausage bisuit from McD's. I'm ready.

ohh, that sounds yummy, I love MCD's hash browns and pancake plates.....

So last night at costco for milk and diapers, Adam grabs some Turkey Gravey and says "you know I really want dinner at home this year. It's not that hard, we'll just get the box of mashed potatoes and corn on the cob, and you know I just like salad out of the bag..."  Um honey more effort than that, so off to the store we will go now that I wrote out the menu and grocery list.  Oh well, more practice for the year I will host Thanksgiving (whenever that may be)

He doesn't spoil me that much, but I do deserve every bit of it and more! LOL Cheesy
Use one of those cooking bags for your turkey if you are a newbie to it. It comes out perfect every time - unless you burn it.  DD called to say dinner is at 2 on Thurs. I'm ready!

I have never roasted a turkey any other way than in the Reynolds Brown n Bag!  Perfect everytime!!!!!!  The first year we had to pick the turkey off the floor as it was a 25 pounder and John didn't hold the bag hard enough - washed it off, rebuttered and into the bag and oven it went!  Our big secret until today!

I brined mine last year and it turned out GREAT I am debating trying that again or doing something new.  I had fun cooking last year but a lot of food went to waste (hehe I first typed waist, yup went there too) and I didn't want that to happen again, but adam swore he'd eat a lot this year since he doesn't have to go into work at 7 like he did last year and I bought some gladware to freeze stuff in.  I work until 12:30, pleanty of time to make stovetop mashedpotatoes, heat up gravy and get the turkey in.   Sure dinner may not be at 4, but whatever!

Hey.. what TIME do you most you eat Thanksgiving?

My family is usually middle of the afternoon.. my in-laws was earlier.. like noon.

We never eat late.. although sometimes at my family we had to have a lotta snacks to hold on when it ran later than the middle of the afternoon!!
