So let's share a Paris story.. or our Inspiration for our Paris quilt!

I went to Paris when I was in 11th grade. I live in Belgium and took the train there with several girls.. we had a room... we ate cheap and we walk and walked for 3 days all over Paris!

Only in the movies or in my dreams do I have Paris experiences. I can't seem to get started on my Challenge. I love the fabric kit, but I can't even --- well I did staple some paper together to start drawing. There is hangs.

My only experience with Paris is the movie "American In Paris" with that fantastic dance sequence... and the Black & White Ball - so that's my reference point - still mulling over a concept.
Lots of writing in my corner - and reading!
Schedule is hectic, and I'm dreading the taxes... hoping for time to work on Paris soon!

I got my kit, haven't done a thing with it yet, haven't been to Paris only in my dreams & the movies! LOL My youngest son is in London right now till the end of April doing a semester abroad and an internship in the accounting dept of the London, Marriot Hotel. While he has been in the UK sight seeing he went to Holand, last week Italy and this weekend Ireland, waiting for him to do Paris! Hoping that will give me an inspiration!

He has been posting pics of his travels on FB so I am waiting. Idea #1 so far ....I'm thinking open air cafe.............pastries...........coffee's...........bonjour, mon ami, parlai vous francias? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh it's been along time since French class!

When I was in 9th grade me & one of my gf's after taking French for 2 yrs went into a resturant and ordered everything in French, LOL, the waitress wasn't amused and said to us......................CUTE, now can I have that in ENGLISH? We thought we were so sophisticated! ROFL Silly Girls!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL hmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe a french menu?HuhHuh The creative juices are starting to flow!

I went to Paris with my mom when I was in my late twenties. I was living in Germany at the time. It was only a three day trip but we got to see the Eiffel Tower at night from a boat... it is too amazing ... we saw Versailles as well. We went to Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame and the Louvre. We wanted to go to the Moulin Rouge but there had to be a vote on the bus (since the bus would have to take us) and since only 4 of us wanted to go we were out voted. It was hot when we were there. I remember really loving it even though I hadn't cared about going that much. It was really fun to see the famous art pieces at the Louvre (Mona Lisa, The Winged Nike, etc...) I haven't started my quilt yet either I am still in the planning stage Smiley

Pat,
Are there any more kits left?  I saw that you offered extra fabric because no one was buying.

This is what I have done so far on the quilt top.   I need to figure out how to "hang" the drapes and a drapery pole is also necessary.  I didn't have enough of the yellow fabric to do what I wanted so I had to make some stripped wallpaper and then try to match the stripes. Yikes!!!
My fondest memory of Paris is looking out the window and seeing the Seine and the Eiffel Tower in the distance.  There may still be a dinner cruise on the river before I am done. (if I can figure out how to do it)  I am hoping the definition of the woodwork will come out with the quilting.

Thanks for the encouragement.  I have put this top away several times in frustration and finally decided to just finish it the best I could.  It needs a lot of finish work and I will probably put a thin black border around the whole thing.
I had some photos I took and sort of combined elements so the view is not totally authentic, but it gives the feeling I wanted.  I wish I could do justice to their beautiful bridges.
I still need to decide on how to put up the drapes.  I may applique them on and then cut away the back so it won't be so bulky.  It is a little stiff right now.
