Pat,  What am I doing wrong?  When I fuse the applique pieces to the background, they don't stick!  I am having to stitch them down after they are cooled, and also using a hotter iron does seem to help.   I have the problem even with prewashed fabrics.

After you have fused it, removed the paper, is the color of the fusible CLEAR LIKE TAPE?

Or more yellow?  If more yellow you are COOKING it to the applique so it's all dry and won't stick to the background..

IF you are making it more yellow or you can't see it... turn iron DOWN... OR don't hold as long. How long are you holding the iron ON the applique to apply the fusible? it should only be a few seconds

Darn...didn't get a notify of all the chatter going on here! LOL   Won't be making placemats, but will be making hmmmm 8 candle mats.....I think!  In the planning stages for Camp Wanna Sew in 21 days!!!  A group of girls from camp will make supper for everyone (approx 50) on Saturday nite, and I said I would do the table pieces.....maybe I should of opted for making the mash potatoes LOL
Deb, I use Pellon fleece for them....the non-fusible one with a little of 505 spray to quilt them.

Back to planning these candle mats....or whatever they end up being  Shocked

Pat-your wool candle mats sound like the ticket!  And with fall being "right around the corner" it will fit in very nicely!  MUCH easier than layering and quilting!
