DH is a WWII buff (never served). He says Julia was a spy in France during the war. Interesting. Don't know if that came out in the movie. I haven't seen it. But what a neat brave lady.

Actually, something like that did come out in the movie, Sharon. Both she and her husband had something like that in their past--I believe that's how they met!

'The National Women's History Museum exhibit, Clandestine Women: The Untold Stories of Women in Espionage, also features the story of another unlikely operative, Julia Child.
Decades before becoming a famous chef, she worked for the Office of Strategic Services. (The OSS was the predecessor to the CIA.) She was assigned to solve a problem for U.S. naval forces during World War II: Sharks would bump into explosives that were placed underwater, setting them off and warning the German U-boats they were intended to sink. "
Her husband was falsely accused by OUR govt of being unfaithful... that is in the movie.. not nice....
and more... "In 1941, at the onset of World War II, Julia moved to Washington, D.C., where she volunteered as a research assistant for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), a newly formed government intelligence agency. She and her colleagues were sent on assignment to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), an island off the coast of India. In her position, Julia played a key role in the communication of top secret documents between U.S. government officials and their intelligence officers. In 1945, she was sent to China, where she began a relationship with fellow OSS employee Paul Child. Following the end of World War II, the couple returned to America and were married.
and I want to read her bio 'My LIfe in France'!

Have you seen any good movies lately?
We (DH and I) watched "Up In The Air" with George Clooney. Very interesting and really quite a sad tale of life.
Next are "Valkerie" and "Crazy Heart." In the process of trying to find "Presumed Innocent" with Harrison Ford (out about 20 years ago) DH joined Netflix for 30 days free. Even with all the great movie channels on DirecTV, it was no where to be found. So, we are now watching a movie every few days since all of our regular programs are on vacation for the summer. We only go to the theater about once a year any more since we have all the entertainment comforts at home.

Presumed Innocent stars Harrison Ford and Bonnie Bedelia. He is accused of murdering a women who is also a District Attorney- they had an affair and now all of the evidence points to him. Very interesting and good movie.
A new book has come out that picks up 20 years later so we wanted to remember the story and not have to listen to many hours of the book!

With even my Britt Coms off PBS last night and NOTHING on the regular channels, we searched Pay for View - nothing. Then DH found Sex in the City the Movie on HBO which he forgot to cancel when his war series ended. I loved it! So much fun with a happy ending of course. Could feel Carrie's pain and she rose like the Phoenix that she is from the romantic disaster. Loved the clothes. So much fun.

I wondered about your take on Alice since you are such a fan of Alice. LOL Get to the movies, Pat. Watched the Tonies last night until 10 (past my bedtime). The Million Dollar Quartet kid plying Jerry Lee Lewis won best actor in a musical. He was floored. DH and I can't wait to go see it now.
